OUR LITTLE STORY

Hi there, we’re Sophie & Cecilia!

Our story started in April of 2023, which is when we first started dreaming about creating a space that didn’t just sit within Sri Lanka’s nature but becomes a part of it. It was a daunting dream for two women stepping into the predominantly male world of construction, navigating language barriers, cultural differences, and endless “are we crazy?” moments. But somehow, we did it.

This home is more than just a place to us. It’s a reflection of a long journey that started with us and now continues with you. It’s a little piece of our heart, shaped into a home. 

We carefully designed this home as a safe space to bring people together, to inspire moments of reflection, curiosity, and creativity, and to connect us more to Sri Lanka’s culture and nature.

MIHIRA HOME is our tribute to the beautiful island we call home.

MIHIRA HOME is a three-bedroom home and explorative space for gatherings, events, and retreats. Nestled between paddy fields and jungle on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, it sits in a lovingly renovated house just minutes from the ocean.

    Sophie GIL

    FOUNDER & CO-OWNER

    Born in Milan, Italy to a Puerto Rican mom and Mexican dad, Sophie has spent the past five years wandering the world on her own, traveling to over 20 countries in search of adventure, stories, and a feeling of belonging.

    She fell hard for Sri Lanka’s culture and nature, and turned her love for design, photography, and journaling—and her studies in environmental economics and sustainability—into a home. Sophie believes in the magic of beauty, balance, and thoughtfully created spaces to bring people together.

    FOUNDER & CO-OWNER

    Born near the Italian Alps, Cecilia grew up skiing, climbing, and spending her time outdoors. She later built a startup in Munich that created coworking spaces, shaping environments where people could connect and collaborate.

    Traveling sparked a love for the ocean and surfing, eventually drawing her to Sri Lanka, where she brought a longtime dream to life: creating a place where nature, creativity, and community meet.
